We are looking for a Data Protection and Information Governance practitioner to join our highly regarded Commercial team. Based from either our Cardiff or Reading office we are keen to hear from individuals who are looking for opportunities on either a full-time/flexible or part-time basis.

 The successful candidate will have a good grounding advising on a wide range of privacy issues and breach response.  Ideally, with experience of commercial negotiations and a strong understanding of matters related to data processing agreements and international data transfers. The scope of the role will include the provision of advice in respect of data sharing and complex export arrangements; responses to Information Commissioner Office (ICO) complaints and investigations; subject access requests, freedom of information issues and data privacy impact statements.  You will be involved in drafting privacy notices, consent forms and records of processing activities and providing advice on compliance matters. The role also involves delivering client training and producing materials on a range of data protection compliance and information governance matters.

Skills / Experience Required

You will be an experienced lawyer, able to work with limited supervision and with a strong background You will have an extensive and current knowledge of data protection and information governance matters, gained within a private sector UK or EU based organisation. You will have the confidence to work with limited supervision and will understand the importance of good quality commercial and practical solutions.  You will be experienced in applying the GDPR principles across a range of sectors and in providing support to clients as their queries advance.

*        Commercial acumen and experience ideally gained within a private sector organisation

*        Good drafting skills with excellent attention to detail

*        A team player – willing to support others and be flexible

*        Confident and personable. Used to being a SME

*        Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

*        Enjoys client contact with ability to build rapport and confidence

*        Willingness to get involved and assist with practices and sector development

*        Excellent IT skills

*       Committed to rigour around treating all clients fairly

*       Focused on attributing dedication, determination and loyalty to colleagues, clients and communities

*       Able to demonstrate continuous development and diversity in thinking

*       Understands and complies with Information Security responsibilities commensurate with this advertised role including Data Protection and the duty of confidentiality
