The Role
This is an opportunity for an established Partner, Legal Director or senior lawyer with a credible route to partnership to take a leading role in the development of our public sector litigation offering. We are particularly interested in individuals who can bring depth of experience in procurement litigation and disputes involving public bodies. The successful candidate will play a key role in growing work connected to Welsh public bodies, advising on contentious procurement, contractual disputes, governance-related disputes and strategically important litigation. You will be expected to lead client relationships, contribute to business development and help build a distinctive public sector litigation practice from a Cardiff base.
Person Specification
You are likely to be a Partner, Legal Director or senior litigation lawyer with a strong reputation for public sector dispute resolution. You may already be based in Cardiff or elsewhere in Wales, or be keen to relocate to the region. The qualities we seek include:-
- Significant experience of procurement litigation, including challenges arising from public procurement processes, regulated tendering environments and contractual award disputes.
- Experience of advising public bodies, suppliers, contractors or regulated organisations on complex contentious matters.
- A strong understanding of commercial contracts, governance-related disputes, risk management and the strategic handling of litigation involving public sector clients.
- A credible track record of developing client relationships and generating or contributing to a sustainable litigation practice.
- The ability to lead matters strategically and work collaboratively across litigation, regulatory, public law and commercial teams.
- Some experience of management, supervision or leadership of others.
- An understanding of the Welsh public sector landscape and the key legal, political and commercial issues affecting clients in that market would be beneficial.
- An established client following or portable relationships would be advantageous, but is not essential where there is a clear fit and market credibility.
